West Orange High Seniors Garner More Than 100 Awards, Scholarships

The West Orange Scholarship Fund distributed more than $55,000 to Class of 2014.

One hundred and seven (107) scholarships and awards were presented on May 29th to graduating seniors at West Orange High School during the annual Senior Awards Night event.

The West Orange Scholarship Fund bestowed scholarships awards totaling more than fifty-five thousand dollars ($55,000), for the class of 2014. The West Orange Scholarship Fund was founded in 1923, and has presented over one million dollars ($1,000,000) to nearly one thousand and five hundred (1500), West Orange seniors attending college and university for post secondary education. The West Orange Scholarship Fund is a not-for-profit, 501(c)3, volunteer organization who working with the West Orange Council of PTA’s, raises tens of thousands of dollars each year for distribution. Awards of special note from the evening include the Principal’s Award for School Service, awarded to Frank Amaefuna, Chinazaekpere Anuamadi, Stefany Ayala, Caroline Bonner, Jalisa Delauney, Jerrold Gordon, Eshawn Hoffler, Ogo Igwe, Sy Jenkins, Philip Kaspriskie, Yamelischah Larame, Lorena Lucero, Joscelyn Maldonado, Matthew McNabb, Jasmine Miller, Stephen Morancie, Beth Norwitz, Jonathan Novoa, Kelly Parisi, Dylan Pennell, Kimberly Tena, Lindsay Thomas, Phelps Toussaint, Sebastian Turano, Jordan Velez, Tiffany White, and Christopher Wold.

The Principal's Award for Outstanding Scholastic Achievement was awarded to, Kenya Williams, Emily Montgomery, Christopher Wold, Yamelischah Larame, Shreya Anand, Gavin Cohn, Nicholas Bakirtzis, Lindsey Tortora, Stefany Ayala, Dana Catanzarite, Cara Greenspan, and Philip Kaspriskie.

The Student Scholar Award winners were Susannah Crowell, Hannah Rudoltz, Jean Darius, Elizabeth DeJong, Dylan Pennell, April Pratt, Bartolome Rocha, Frederic Barnwell, Joseph Iwuala, Stephen Morancie, Nkeiruka Nwobu, Noelle Pressey and Jade Remar.

Also presented were the Senior Class Student Council Awards, and dozens of other awards, including the 2014 Horatio Alger National Scholarship, the West Orange Women’s Club awards, the Black History Month Dinner Scholarship, and the Betty Maddalena Memorial Awards.

Armed Services awards were presented including the Marines Distinguished Athlete Award, Distinguished Scholastic Excellence Award, the Seper Fidelis Award, and the Army ROTC National Scholarship, and Appointment to the United States Naval Academy. National Honor Society Honor braids were distributed for the graduation ceremony, the Presidential Scholar Awards presented, and the 2014 Valedictorian, Susannah Crowell, and Salutatorian Emily Adelsohn named.

“It was a vibrant evening with a room full of senior classman that makes me proud to be a Mountaineer. I am extremely grateful to the scholarship contributors for the financial support that they provide for our students. This allows our students the opportunity to move forward with their post secondary education. This night exemplifies how this wonderful community embraces and cultivates academic success,” said West Orange High School Principal Hayden Moore.
