Annual Mayor's Trophy Basketball Games Held

The Annual Mayors Trophy Basketball games were played on Wednesday, February 12th at West Orange High School!  The game featured Roosevelt Middle School vs. teams from Liberty Middle School.  A large crowd packed Tarnoff Gym to see the cheerleaders and basketball teams compete.

In the girl’s game, Roosevelt Middle School avenged their only loss of the season by defeating Liberty Middle School 56-42!  Maya Bembry was absolutely outstanding, scoring 24 points for the victors.  Aliea Perkins added 9 points and 10 rebounds for the Roosevelt Rough Riders also.  Madison Mitchell led Liberty Middle School in rebounds and played a solid game.

Both teams should be very proud of their great seasons.  The Roosevelt Roughriders finished 11-1 while the Liberty Lions finished 10-2

The boy’s game came down to the final seconds with Liberty Middle School defeating Roosevelt Middle School 52-51 in a thrilling game.

Liberty Middle School was led by the outstanding trio of Justin Bouyer, Nashein Harte and Justin Winston.  Shayne Simon was the leading scorer for the Roosevelt Roughriders.

Both teams had outstanding seasons with Roosevelt Middle School finishing with a record of 13-1.  The Liberty Lions finished with a 7 game winning streak and a season record of 9 wins and 2 losses.

After each game the teams and their cheerleaders shared pizza and conversation with each other.  A good time was had by all.  The future for West Orange High Schools looks bright.
