2ND ANNUAL STEM PROGRAM AT THOMAS EDISON MIDDLE SCHOOL A SUCCESS

The West Orange African Heritage Organization 2nd Annual STEM, Science, Technology, Engineering and Math program held at Thomas Edison Middle School on Thursday and Friday, March 6th, and 7th, was a huge success. Twelve professionals in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, along with West Orange High School students who have chosen STEM subjects as their field of study, presented to students information about their chosen career paths.

"Students were engaged and attentive in every classroom, asking lots of questions and learning about real world applications for careers in math, science and technology," said Principal Xavier Fitzgerald.

"Traditionally science has always been an under represented field for people of color," said STEM coordinator, WOAHO Black History Month committee member, Linda Bullock. "Since Edison Middle School is a central 6th grade it has all the district’s students in one location at an early developmental age. We thought introducing them to the idea of careers in science and technology now would spark an early interest."
