MUSTANGS CONTINUE TO DOMINATE

MUSTANGS HAVE HUGE WIN OVER EAST ORANGE, 40-14

This past Sunday the West Orange PAL 10U Pee Wee Mustangs put up their biggest point total of the year, beating East Orange 40-14. Makhi Green started off the scoring with a 90 yard kickoff return for a touchdown to begin the game. After the Panthers scored on their first play, Divine Zaire ran the next kickoff back for a touchdown to keep the scoring going. Green and Zaire also each had rushing TDs later in the game. Jordan Quiles also scored a 27 yard TD on a great play action pass from Sean Brown. Brown also threw a two point pass to Jayson Raines in the game. Pharele Brun stayed hot and scored on a 47 yard touchdown run. Shakhi Carson (extra point), Dorian Rawls, Zander Lipsey and Adam Ashby also added to the offensive attack. The Mustangs’ quick striking ability proved to be way too much for East Orange to keep up. By the time the 4th quarter started, West Orange had run only 4 offensive plays in the entire game and had scored 5 touchdowns. The offensive line lead by Chris Parsons, Zander Timothy, Syncere Flanagan, Adrian Charles, Jahsil Ashe, JJ Scavalla, Aidan Healey, Sean Tandy and Anthony Brown opened big holes all day.

The defense was very strong as well. Parsons had Carson led at middle linebacker and made many tackles. Hunter Bonaparte came in at linebacker and also did well. Zander Timothy had the biggest defensive play with a strip, ripping the ball right from the hands of the runner and return that set up a Mustang TD. Other players with strong defensive efforts were Adam Ashby, Jordan Quiles, Pharele Brun and Jared Massay (interception). Raines and Flanagan were also solid as always. Bowen Wright, Gavin Rembert and Austin Cowley also came in and made nice plays in the second half.

Additionally, on Monday night the Mustangs got some more payback against Montclair, winning 13-0. Adam Ashby started the scoring with an 50 yard touchdown run. He refused to go down and broke several tackles on his way to the endzone. Divine Zaire also would score on a 60 yard touchdown run later in the game. And Jordan Reynoso added the extra point on a strong run up the middle. Colton Lehrer did an excellent job leading the offense all game at quarterback. Hunter Bonaparte, Zander Lipsey, Gilberto Robinson, Surpreme Zaire and Tajir Brown all did a nice job in the backfield. The line held strong with Gavin Rembert, Anthony Chapman, Sean Tandy, Anthony Brown, JJ Scavalla, Aidan Healey, Aidan Carter and Andrew Merklinger all doing their part. Rembert, Healey and Scavalla all did a great job on defense as well. Bowen Wright, Austin Cowley, Marcus Green, Syhan Webb along with Lipsey and Ashby did a great job on defense to hold the shutout. Brandon Ali-Ramproop, Marco Davino, Miles Morgan and Tommy Minichillo added good effort for the Mustangs on both sides of the ball.

Along with amazing talent, dedicated players and parental support, strong coaching is what has got this team to where it is today.  Head Coach Andrew Mazurek and Coaches, Tom Brennan, Tommy Brennan Jr., Russ DeSantis, Carmen D'Aiuto, seem to have built one powerhouse of a team.

The Mustangs have moved to 6-0 in the Twin Valley Conference holding steady their first place position.  With only two conference games left in the season, a Playoff spot is likely.

The next game is October 27 verses Clifton at Clifton.  On paper Clifton seems to be the Mustangs biggest challenge this season.  It is anticipated that some good football will be played.  While the Mustangs have been ranked as one of the top ten teams in the State by the National Prep & Youth Football Association, Clifton has been noted by them as a "team to watch".

Come out, show your support for these boys, and cheer alongside the talented Pee Wee Cheerleaders.  The game will be played this coming Sunday at 10:30 am at C.H.S. Stadium, at Christopher Columbus Middle School, 350 Piaget Ave. in Clifton.
