MUSTANGS PROVE THEY ARE STILL #1

Under head Coach Andrew Mazurek, this past Sunday, the 10U West Orange PAL Pee Wee Mustangs had a big statement win against Jersey City.  In the matchup up of the two best teams from last season (Jersey City’s only lost last year was to the Mustangs), West Orange came out on top with a 15-0 win.  Scoring machine, Makhi Green started off with an exciting 49 yard TD run. He also added a 2 point and 1 point run. Later in the first half, Sean Brown hit Jayson Raines on a play action pass for a 43 yard TD and total control of the game.  Shakhi Carson ran the ball well and helped control possession with 47 yards on 6 carries. Pharelle Brun and Sean Brown were also strong in the run game adding 38 yards together. This was the offensive line’s best game of the year. Chris Parsons, Zander Timothy, Syncere Flanagan, Adrian Charles, Jahsil Ashe, Raines, Jordan Quiles, Aidan Healey and JJ Scavalla pushed back the the Jersey City defense the entire game. The Mustangs put up a total of 177 yards on 25 plays.

The defense was even stronger this week. Adam Ashby was a monster at linebacker, recording 8 tackles and a sack. Parsons (4 tackles, 1 sack), Quiles (4 tackles) and Carson (3 tackles) also made many big plays from the linebacker position.  Dorian Rawls, Zander Lipsey and Divine Zaire stayed strong on the corners and did not let anything get outside. Brun added 4 tackles and 3 sacks. Timothy, Charles, Flanagan and Bowen Wright clogged the middle all day. Raines added a fumble recovery. Jared Massay made plays from sideline to sideline, including the biggest hit of the game on a huge fourth down stop. Jersey City really had no where to go. The Jets totalled only 2 yards the entire game. This dominating win shows the Mustangs are still number one in the Twin Valley Football Conference.

The Monday night game was a hard fought contest against Montclair. The Mustangs were down 12-0 after the first half but did not quit. Colton Lehrer started at quarterback and did a nice job leading the offense. David Pedo was strong at center and was helped by the rest of his offensive line: Miles Morgan, Sean Tandy, Anthony Brown, Anthony Chapman, Tommy Minichillo, JJ Scavalla, Aidan Carter and Andrew Merklinger. The defense was led by Bowen Wright, Adam Ashby, Zander Lipsey, Larry Verducci, Austin Cowley and Scavalla. They all made many big plays and hits. Tajir Brown, Syhan Webb and Aidan Healey also made nice plays at linebacker. Lipsey came in at QB in the second half and lead an amazing comeback. Ashby scored two TDs and Gilberto Robinson added the extra point to put the Mustangs up by one 13-12. Hunter Bonaparte and Jordan Reynoso added to the power in the backfield, along with Ashby and Robinson. Healey did an excellent job on offense too, making two big catches for the Mustangs. Brandon Ali-Ramproop, Marco Davino, James Flowers, Marcus Green and Surpreme Zaire also helped the Mustangs on both sides of the ball. Montclair scored a late TD to take the game 18-13. Even though they lost, the Mustangs showed great character and effort to comeback and will look to get some major payback when they play Montclair again in two weeks.
