MUSTANGS MAKE IT TO CHAMPIONSHIPS 3rd YEAR IN A ROW

THE PEE WEE MUSTANGS MOVE ON TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP VS CLIFTON

For the third year in a row the West Orange 10U PAL Pee Wee Mustangs are headed to the Twin Valley Football Conference Championships.  This past Sunday Head Coach Andrew Mazurek led his team of 8-10 year olds onto the field pumped up and ready to win.  The team played in the semifinals and beat East Orange 18-8 in exciting game to advance to the Championship. Makhi Green led the offensive attack with 83 tough yards on 11 carries. Fullbacks Pharele Brun (35 yards) and Zander Lipsey (31 yards) complemented Green well with tough running up the middle. Divine Zaire started the scoring for the Mustangs with a 14 yard TD run. Brun would add a touchdown in the second quarter. Green converted both 2 point conversions to put the team up 16-0. Quarterback Sean Brown completed 2 passes, both to Jayson Raines, for 36 yards. One came on an important 4th down play to extend a drive late in the game. The line played well and stayed strong up front. Chris Parsons, Zander Timothy, Syncere Flanagan, Adrian Charles, Jahsil Ashe, Jordan Quiles, Raines and Aidan Healey were big parts to the victory.

Although the defense would let up a long TD before the end of the half to make the score 16-8, they were strong enough to stay ahead of East Orange in the second half. Adam Ashby led the team in tackles with 8. Parsons and Quiles would add 6 tackles each. Brun (4 tackles) and Timothy (5 tackles) combined for a sack and safety late in the game to put the Mustangs up 10 points and assure the victory. Also adding to the defensive effort were Shakhi Carson, Tajir Brown, Rawls, Zaire and Raines. Colton Lehrer, Austin Cowley, JJ Scavalla, Bowen Wright and Gavin Rembert helped the team win on special teams. The exciting victory puts the Mustangs in the championship game against Clifton.

West Orange will be hosting the Championship game this Sunday, November 17, 2013 at 10:30 am at the High School Field.  They are matched up against Clifton who has a 7-1 record in the conference.  Clifton's only loss this season was 13-12 to this West Orange team.  Clifton will be a formidable opponent and you can bet both teams are practicing hard this week despite frigid temperatures.  West Orange does have a home field advantage this time around.

Come out Sunday and watch some West Orange youth football history in the making.  Win or lose this team, which is currently ranked in the top ten in the State, deserve a big round of applause.  For many of the players this will be their third trip to the finals with Mazurek and their last game under his mentoring.  The team has only had one regular season loss in the last three years back in 2011. They have a 26-2 overall  conference record for that same three year period.  Again Kudos to these boys and coaches.  These kind of seasons generally come once in a lifetime.  This team has been lucky enough to have three once in a lifetime years.  Memories are being made that they all will cherish.
