Lots of Programs For Children This Fall at WOPL

This fall the West Orange Public Library has a great line-up of children’s programs for all ages, from storytimes for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and emergent readers to Chess Club, Lego Club and a Hispanic Heritage Fiesta. Come join us for these fun, educational, social programs that help children build literacy, logical reasoning, and creative skills!

Storytimes                                  

·         Pajama Storytime (Infants to Four Years) – Monday, Oct 7 to Nov 11 at 6:30pm. – Stories, songs and rhymes introduce babies, toddlers and their caregivers to language skills. Program lasts 20 minutes. Registration required.

·         Babies and Books (Infants up to 24 Months) – Fridays at 10:30am from Oct 11 to Nov 15 – Stories, songs and rhymes introduce babies and their caregivers to language skills. Program lasts 20 minutes.

·         Terrific Toddlers Storytime (Ages 2 to 3 ½)  – Tuesdays (10:30am) and Fridays (11:30am) from Oct 8 to Nov 15 – Puppets, stories, songs and finger plays to entertain toddlers and their caregivers. Program lasts 30 minutes. Registration required.

·         Preschool Page Turners (Ages 3 ½ to 5) – Mondays (3:30pm) and Tuesdays (11:30am) from Oct 8 to Nov 12 – Stories, songs and games provide interactive fun for preschoolers. Program lasts 30 minutes. Parents must remain in the library during this storytime. Registration required.

·         Eager Readers Storytime (Grades K to 3)  – Monday, Oct 7 to Nov 11 at 4:30pm – Stories and games to spark the imagination of young readers. Program lasts 30 minutes. Parents must remain in the library during this storytime. Registration required.

 

Programs

·         Lego Club (Grades K to 5) – Tuesdays, Oct 1, Nov 5, and Dec 5 from 4 to 5pm – Come build with Legos and make new friends.

·         Open Chess (Grades 2 to 8) – Thursdays from Oct 3 to Nov 21 from 4 to 5pm – Drop-in and play chess with other players.

·         Creature Comforts – Oct 7, Nov 4, Dec 2 at 4:30pm – Children practice reading to a trained therapy dog.

·         Hispanic Heritage Fiesta – Monday, Oct 14, 7pm – Dance, sing, and learn with musician Emily Ellison in a family fiesta for all ages. Spanish and English. Registration suggested.

·         International Games Day – Saturday, Nov 16, 12 to 4pm – Drop-in and play a board game with family and friends! All ages. Parents are encouraged to play with their children.

Book Clubs

·         Yakety-Yak (Grades 2 and 3) – Book discussion group meets on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 4:30pm. Parents are encouraged to attend the discussion with their children. Registration required. Each month’s book is available behind the front desk.

·         Speaking of Stories (Grades 4 and 5) – Book discussion group meets on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 4:30pm. Parents are encouraged to attend the discussion with their children. Registration required. Each month’s book is available behind the front desk.

·         Read ‘N Chat (Grades 6 to 8) – Book discussion group meets on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 7:30pm. Registration required. Each month’s book is available behind the front desk.
