Student Recognized at Jazz Concert as a Recipient of Horatio Alger Scholarship

Horatio Scholar Sania Kamran was recognized at the Jazz Concert at Lincoln Center on Wednesday.

West Orange High School senior and 2014 Horatio Alger Scholar Sania Kamran attended the Jazz at Lincoln Center Concert on Jan. 22.  The concert was held to benefit the Horatio Alger Scholarship Program, which awarded Kamran and 105 other students across the nation, with college scholarships.

Kamran and other 2014 scholars from the New York and New Jersey area were chosen to attend the concert and were recognized as outstanding students, have exhibited an admirable commitment to continuing his or her education and for serving his or her community. 

The concert featured pop-classical singer George Perris, who is also the international ambassador for Horatio Alger Association.

The Horatio Alger Scholarship Program is one of the nation’s largest privately funded, need-based financial aid programs solely supported by private donations from its elite group of Members – many of whom are from the New York metropolitan area.

Kamran was named a 2014 Horatio Scholar earlier this month and was awarded a $21,000 scholarship for college.  Every recipient was awarded $21,000 to apply toward the tuition of the college or university of choice and will have access to a variety of resources through the association, including assistance for the selection of and preparation for college, access to guidance and crisis counselors as well as mentoring programs.
