Mordecai Kaplan and Secular Judaism: A Vote, Not a Veto
Did a founder of the Reconstructionist Jewish movement inadvertently pave the way for Secular Humanistic Judaism? Join Edward "Zeke" Klein, leader of the Queens Society for Cultural Judaism and a rabbinic candidate at the International Institute for Secular Humanistic Judaism, for a lively discussion on the life and work of Mordecai Kaplan, the highly influential 20th century rabbi who described Judaism as an "evolving civilization," denied the existence of a supernatural god, and may well be a grandfather of one of the most innovative approaches to Jewish ritual and practice.
Hosted by progressive Jewish writer and scholar Bennett Muraskin, this free monthly session of the the Jewish Cultural School & Society's (JCSS) adult education series is open to all.
