West Orange Veterans Day Ceremony Cancelled

As you may or may not be aware, a tree felled by Tropical Storm Sandy has caused significant damage to the Township's War Memorial Park; toppling the center (American) flag pole, one of the service flag poles (Coast Guard) and both the decorative light posts/fixtures within the complex (see attached picture). Repairs will take some time and will not be inexpensive. While regrettable, it also does not appear to be a situation placing anyone in any significant danger and, rather clearly, the Township and the Department of Public Works Works will have far more emergent issues to deal with over the next week; matters concerning public safety and quality of life being paramount. With that said, following consultation with Mayor Parisi and discretion  being the better part of valor, we are cancelling the Veteran Day ceremony that was scheduled for 11:00 AM, Sunday, November 11, 2012. You may be assured that the Mayor's and Township's commitment to its veterans and residents currently serving in the armed forces remains unwavering and that we are taking this action solely out of practical necessity and during what has been a difficult time for most everyone.
