West Orange Actress to Debut in Off Broadway Play

West Orange Native Erica Scott Makes Her Theatrical Debut in NYC

Actress Erica Scott will make her off Broadway debut on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. in the hilarious romantic play Platanos Y Collard Greens that is playing at the Baruch Performing Arts Center at Baruch College located at 55 Lexington Avenue in New York City.

Already an aspiringactress, Erica just so happened to treat her father to a performance of Platanos Y Collard Greens for his birthday when she was discovered by the play’s director.  It’s no surprise that Erica’s model-like style would catch anyone’s eye.  She gladly accepted his invitation to audition for
the role of Malady, an edgy, vocal character that speaks for every black woman
worldwide.  Undoubtedly, she wowed them and garnered the role.  “I
was thrilled to be given this wonderful opportunity and to play such a strong
character is exciting,” said Erica.

Overall, the play explores the relationship of two college students who fall in love, much to the chagrin of MaladyHer role is important because she seeks an explanation of why black men date outside of the race.  Her line “What’s wrong with the chocolate?” will leave theater goers on the edge of their seats waiting for an explanation.
