New Jersey American Water Construction Closes Section of Harrison Avenue

Official: Project should be done by end of month

A small section of Harrison Avenue in front of Our Lady of Lourdes church will remain closed until the end of the month as New Jersey American Water completes a construction project.

Leonard Lepore, the township's deputy municipal head of engineering, said the utility company is putting in a new chamber for a pressure-reducing valve for that area.

"They need to properly assure the lower section of West Orange will have the proper pressure in the system," he said. "Not too low, but also not too high so people's gaskets don't fly off."

In the meantime, traffic going west onto Eagle Rock Avenue is rerouted around the small concrete island separating the avenues and Main Street.

Lepore said New Jersey American Water is expected to be done with the project by April.
