Day 6: List of Open Gas Stations

10:30 a.m. Sunday West Orange update.

[UPDATED: 10:30 a.m. Sunday]
According to the latest update from West Orange officials on Saturday at 7 p.m., PSE&G has now restored power to approximately 70 percent of the township.

Crews were scheduled to work overnight until power was completely restored to the township.

The township also reported:

  • Because of limited power and resources and the hazardous conditions created by lines of cars and people waiting to get gasoline, all gas stations in town will continue to shut down at 6 p.m. daily and reopen at 6 a.m. daily.

The township says the following gas stations have gas as of 9 a.m. Sunday:

    Citgo, 13 Northfield Ave.
    BP, 83 Main St.
    Exxon, 270 Prospect Ave.
    Exxon, 973 Pleasant Valley Way
Northfield Auto Service (Getty), 585 Northfield Ave.

  • The township shelter at Liberty Middle School, 1 Kelly Dr., remains open for West Orange residents only. Residents need to bring blankets, pillows, prescriptions and personal items.

The township has also set up a free Halloween movie marathon at the middle school auditorium on Monday for children at the school.

    Here is the tentative schedule:
    1 p.m. – iCarly’s Halloween Adventure
1:30 p.m. – SpongeBob and the Hash slinging Slasher
    2 p.m. – Scooby Doo Halloween Mystery
    2:30 p.m. – West Orange Rec’s Halloween Movie Collage
3:15 p.m. – Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein

The township will provide a free, light Halloween dinner and refreshments beginning at 4:15 p.m.

[UPDATED 8:30 p.m.]

Because of limited power and resources and the hazardous conditions created by the lines of cars and people waiting to get gas, all gas stations in West Orange are shutting down at 6 p.m. and reopening at 6 a.m., said a statement on the town's website.  This is a temporary mandate that has been put into effect for the public’s safety.

West Orange remains under a limited state of emergency. A mandatory curfew will remain in effect from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. until further notice. Residents are instructed to remain at home or in secure locations as much as possible over the next several days.

Fifty percent of West Orange is still without power. The town is working diligently with PSE&G to restore power throughout the Township.

Regularly scheduled Garbage and Bulk Trash Collection has resumed. Regularly scheduled recycling resumes on Monday, Nov. 5.

Residents can place storm-related debris in front of their homes, but it must be separated from leaves. The township will not pick up stumps, tree trunks or whole trees.

West Orange public schools will remain closed on Monday, Nov. 5. Schools are closed Tuesday, Nov. 6 for Election Day. There will be half days on Wednesday, Nov. 7, Thursday, Nov. 8 and Friday, Nov. 9.

For residents who need assistance, a shelter will opened at 4 p.m. today, Nov. 2, at Liberty Middle School, located at 1 Kelly Drive. Bring blankets, prescriptions and any personal needs. Please do not bring pets.

Pleasantdale Presbyterian Church, located at 471 Pleasant Valley Way, will be open on Saturday, Nov. 3 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to help residents who need heat, power, water and a place to stay for the day.

Jitney service to the train station is suspended until further notice.

I appreciate all of the efforts of both PSE&G and our mayor and all of the responders who have helped and who currently are helping resore normalcy as quickly as possible. God Bless

Smart move. Our police are stretched thin as it is without having to supervise gas station lines.

Just an FYI, Prospect Exxon (next to Sunoco) won't start pumping gas til 7AM, although its probably best to get there earlier!

Not only is the pleasent valley exxon over charging...they are managing the lines pretty poorly, I know this is a stressful time but things could be managed much more effectively in this situation.
