Author and Former West Orange Resident Visits the West Orange Library

Imagine yourself a 40 something, successful nutritionist and mother of two whose husband has gone to drop off the young babysitter and not returned.   Once it is clear that your husband is not hurt or dead, but merely gone, what would you do?  Would you re-evaluate your entire marriage and relationship and admit mistakes or would you blame him alone?   How would you continue to juggle children and career with the looming possibility that your life as you knew it is over?  These questions are pondered by protagonist Eve Adams in Cathi Hanauer’s probing new novel Gone.  The author herself, who grew up in West Orange, visits the library for a reading and Q&A on Thursday, Oct 4 at 7pm.

The Library is excited to welcome Cathi Hanauer back to her former hometown of West Orange.  She is the author of the two previous novels My Sister’s Bones, and Sweet Ruin, and is the editor of the essay collection The Bitch in the House.  She has written articles, essays, and reviews for The New York Times, Elle, O, Self, Glamour, Whole Living, Mademoiselle, Parenting, Child, Redbook and other magazines.  She was the monthly books columnist for both Glamour and Mademoiselle and wrote the monthly advice column “Relating” in Seventeen for seven years.  She has taught writing at The New School in New York and at the University of Arizona in Tucson.  She now lives in Northampton, Massachusetts with her husband, writer and New York Times ‘Modern Love’ editor Daniel Jones and their daughter and son.  Please join us for this exciting free event on October 4 and sign up on-line at www.wopl.org  or by calling 973-736-0198.
