US News Names Kessler a Top Rehab Hospital in Country

Kessler has locations in West Orange, Saddle Brook and Chester.

Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in West Orange has again been ranked by U.S. News and World Report as one of the top two rehabilitation hospitals in the country. The magazine also honored Kessler for being the leading facility of its kind in New Jersey and the greater New York metropolitan region. This marks the 21st consecutive year that Kessler has been included in this annual independent survey.

“We are honored that Kessler has again been named one of the very best rehabilitation hospitals in the country,” said President Robert Brehm. “This is meaningful acknowledgement of our commitment to deliver the quality care and advanced treatment that enables individuals with brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, orthopedic conditions, amputation and other injuries or illnesses to rebuild their lives.

"We are proud of our more than 2000 Kessler employees and the work they do each day, but prouder still of our patients whose progress is the true measure of our success.”

Kessler has held the number two spot in the national rankings for eight of the past nine years. According to U.S News, the annual rankings recognize hospitals that excel in the treatment the most challenging patients. The number one spot went to the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.

“A hospital that emerges from our analysis as one of best has much to be proud of,” said Avery Comarow, U.S. News Health Rankings editor. “These hospitals … should be on your list when you need the best care; they are where other hospitals send the toughest cases.”

Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation is one of only eight federally-designated model systems in the nation for the treatment and research of both traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury, a distinction it shares with the Kessler Foundation. The hospital provides that same level of comprehensive care and specialized treatment to address the complex needs of individuals with stroke, amputation, neurological diseases and orthopedic conditions.

Kessler Institute, a division of Select Medical, has three hospital campuses in West Orange, Saddle Brook and Chester and more than 80 outpatient Kessler rehab centers throughout the state.
