 In October 1831, Thomas Alva Edison died at his Glenmont Estate at the age of 84. To commemorate the eightieth anniversary of his death, the National Park Service will offer two evening tours of Thomas Edison's home, Glenmont, in Llewellyn Park. The "Last Moments" tours will take place at 7:00pm and 8:00pm. Hear passages from his last will and testament and understand how his family was affected by his passing. Visitors will get a rare opportunity to view an exact replica of Edison's death mask.

Hike the Turtle Back Trail in its entirety. About 4 miles at a moderate pace. Meet at the Turtle Back Rock picnic grove, off of Walker Rd. 0.1 mile in from the traffic light on Northfield Ave. a little east of Turtle Back Zoo.

WHY GO:  The adopted child and teen often face challenges in the school environment that are specifically related to adoption.  Among the greatest challenges are issues of self-esteem and identity.  These issues can interfere with the child’s school performance as well as their social network.  Let’s discuss these issues and other related school issues with clinical psychologist Dr. Michael Stango who specializes in working with children and adolescents, families, parents and adults.

WHY GO:  Pale Language frames a visual argument between power and subtlety in works by Painters Martha Ferguson and Nancy Gail Ring and Sculptor/Installation Artist Alice Momm.  The works collectively invite a broader dialogue about the use of economy and restraint to convey intensity. Ring and Ferguson's large-scale paintings and works on paper, and Momm's site-specific installation comprised of fabric and natural materials will be showcased.

WHY GO: Essex County is offering a free, outdoor showing of Monster House (PG) where three teens discover that their neighbor's house is really a living, breathing, scary monster.  Safe family fun!

WHY GO:   “October Tails,” is Barnabas Health Hospice and Palliative Care Center’s annual Halloween-themed dog walk fundraiser.  Proceeds will fund Paws for Patients, a canine therapy program for patients.   The centerpiece of “October Tails” is a Halloween costume contest for dogs, with prizes in the following categories: Most Original, Funniest, Most Heartwarming and Best in Show. WHY GO:  Come visit this creepy genetically modified food processing factory as an “employee.” You will meet your deranged co-workers and see what the boss is feeding them for lunch. Beware: Many of the new employees don't make it through the night shift!
COST:   $18 for Adults, $15 for Children 12 and under. $30 For Rapid Processing Ticket (VIP)   ** “Not-so-Scary” Kids’ Sunday Matinees from 2 pm-6 pm. Tickets are $8 a person and adults must be accompanied by a child age 12 and under.

WHY GO: Haunted House, Games, Hay Rides, Food, Arts and Crafts, Halloween Dance Classes, Urban Legend Storytime, Concerts, Parties and More!
COST:  Admission to the stadium is free, but most activities will have a fee. Admission to the haunted house is $20 for adults and $15 for students. The hayride is $5, and games are $1. Mystery dinner reservations must by made by the Wednesday prior and cost $20, or $25 for dinner with wine/beer.

WHY GO: Visit a super spooky Montclair Halloween house and make a donation to help local teen, Dimitri Vallejo who was recently diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia.
COST: Free, but donations are greatly appreciated and will help the Vallejo family.

Octoberfest at Gregory Elementary School - Saturday 3pm to 5pm - Rain or Shine. The Back to School Social will be filled with activities for all! Fall backdrop for photos too! Enjoy Doughnuts, Pretzels, and Fresh Apple Cider!
