 In October 1831, Thomas Alva Edison died at his Glenmont Estate at the age of 84. To commemorate the eightieth anniversary of his death, the National Park Service will offer two evening tours of Thomas Edison's home, Glenmont, in Llewellyn Park. The "Last Moments" tours will take place at 7:00pm and 8:00pm. Hear passages from his last will and testament and understand how his family was affected by his passing. Visitors will get a rare opportunity to view an exact replica of Edison's death mask.

WHY GO:  The adopted child and teen often face challenges in the school environment that are specifically related to adoption.  Among the greatest challenges are issues of self-esteem and identity.  These issues can interfere with the child’s school performance as well as their social network.  Let’s discuss these issues and other related school issues with clinical psychologist Dr. Michael Stango who specializes in working with children and adolescents, families, parents and adults.

WHY GO:  Pale Language frames a visual argument between power and subtlety in works by Painters Martha Ferguson and Nancy Gail Ring and Sculptor/Installation Artist Alice Momm.  The works collectively invite a broader dialogue about the use of economy and restraint to convey intensity. Ring and Ferguson's large-scale paintings and works on paper, and Momm's site-specific installation comprised of fabric and natural materials will be showcased.

WHY GO:   “October Tails,” is Barnabas Health Hospice and Palliative Care Center’s annual Halloween-themed dog walk fundraiser.  Proceeds will fund Paws for Patients, a canine therapy program for patients.   The centerpiece of “October Tails” is a Halloween costume contest for dogs, with prizes in the following categories: Most Original, Funniest, Most Heartwarming and Best in Show. The Annual Community Thanksgiving Luncheon at the Mayfair Farms on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at Noon.   Tickets are $40 per person in advance ($45 at the door) and may be purchased online at www.westorangechamber.com.   Guests are encouraged to bring donations of non-perishable foods for our food drive to support feeding our residents in need through the West Orange Food Pantry.
