What's Happening in Local West Orange Synagogues

As the weather is getting warmer, Congregation Ahawas Achim Bnai Jacob & David continues to stay busy with great programs while trying to stay cool.

Our youth department continues to be a hit over the summer, even though were on a modified summer schedule. Soon, we will sadly said our goodbyes to Chanie, our youth director of three amazing years, of dedicated work to our children, who will be leaving us this summer and moving with her family. We are looking forward to our new youth directors and know that they will do an amazing job.

Camp Shemesh started out with a bang and has continued to be a huge hit among the campers and parents. In our fourth week of camp the children are constantly busy with their jam-packed daily schedule. The children spend their days swimming, singing, laughing, crafting and more. They have had many exciting themed days. Our new camp director, Sura Rozenberg, worked very hard throughout the year planning a fun filled and safe summer for our campers. Her transition into camp has been a smooth one and she has been doing a phenomenal job.

Together on Tuesday, is now on their limited summer schedule. During the year the program meets every Tuesday. The programs are social, intellectual and educational. Knowledgeable speakers on Judaism, current events, politics and the arts are invited. Those interested do not have to be a member of the congregation in order to participate. For more information about our summer schedule of any other information contact Seniors Coordinator, Debbie Druce at (973) 736-1407 x240 or email her at, srstot@gmail.com.

Our last blood drive, which had an overwhelming amount of people who came out, to give the gift of life, was our most successful one yet. A big thank you to everyone who came out to help support it. We look forward to hosting many more and giving you the opportunity to save a life.

Although it is still summer and hot, it is not too early to start thinking about the High Holidays season. The application form, which can be accessed from our website, must be completed and submitted with payment to the shul office by Aug. 1 to secure your seats. Applications received after that date will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

We remind all members to make sure that their accounts are current. Did you know that you can make payments online via our website? Go to aabjd.org look for the ‘Secure Payment” icon on the home page. Click on it and “voila.” Please be sure to indicate what you are paying for in the “notes” section. Give it a try!
