West Orange St. Patrick's Day Parade to Draw Thousands

It's that time of year again, where the green is the way to go.

West Orange's 61st Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade will kick-off Sunday at 12:15 p.m. in front of township hall on Main Street.

"Our parade has grown over the years," said Stephanie O'Hara Gallo, parade chairperson and lifelong resident of West Orange. "Its known as the family parade of New Jersey … we have many families who have been involved since the inception."

Gallo said she expects the parade to draw thousands this year from all over the state.

More than 100 organizations and 25 bands will also be marching this year, she said. One band will even be coming in from as far as Ireland and another from Boston.

The parade will begin at 66 Main Street in front of town hall and end at on 1 Eagle Rock Avenue.

The parade is honoring five residents this year including Gregory Dillon as grand marshal and Thomas Cannan, Michael Shannon, Neil O'Hare and Ellen Sweeney as deputy grand marshals.

Buses stationed at Mississippi and Harrison Avenues will transport residents to the start of the parade in front of town hall.
