West Orange Launches 'Talk to the Town' Series on Facebook

The new web chat series features a township department head interacting with residents through the town's Facebook page.

The township has a new way to interact with the residents of West Orange and it is through popular social media site Facebook. “Talk to the Town," a new Facebook chat series, was launched earlier this month and allows residents to post questions and suggestions to the Township Facebook page and experience immediate answers and feedback during the chat session.

The virtual initiative comes on the heels of Mayor Robert Parisi’s first Facebook chat, which he hosted in November. It was so popular that the one-hour original timeframe designated for the session turned into more than two hours.

“Residents are the cornerstone of this community and it’s very important to us that we interact with them as often as possible," Parisi said. "Facebook provides an excellent avenue to immediately and easily share and exchange information.”

There will be one chat session per month. Throughout the year, every department director will have a designated day to participate. Each chat will last for one hour.

The next two Facebook chats are scheduled for Feb. 19 with Health Department Officer Theresa DeNova and March 12 with Department of Public Works and Engineering Director Lenny Lepore. Both discussions will last from 1-2 PM.
