Office Of Emergency Management Reopens After Hurricane Irene

The Essex County Office of Emergency Management was shut down due to necessary repairs following Hurricane Irene.

After Hurricane Irene in 2011 left the Essex County Office of Emergency Management out of commission, the Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders announced its reopening.

The Freeholders reopened the facility, located at 560 Northfield Avenue, May 14 following necessary renovations due to Irene.

The office underwent a redesign facilitated by the Essex County Department of Public Works, which included revamping offices and storm drains to brace for potential flooding in the future.

The Sheriff worked with FEMA and the NJ State Police to secure mitigation funds for the redesign, according to a recent Freeholder release.
