Montclair State University will host a discussion and question-and-answer session Monday on the Environmental Protection Agency's proposed plan to clean the lower 8.3 miles of Passaic River.

The meeting will be held at University Hall's Room 1010 from 8 a.m. to noon.

The EPA wants to dredge about 4.3 million cubic yards of sediment from bank-to-bank—enough to fill MetLife Stadium twice—and to cap the dredged area with sand and a layer of armoring stone.

The project also calls for creating a navigable channel in the 2.2 miles of river closest to Newark Bay.

This would be one of the largest volumes the EPA Superfund program has ever dredged.

Elected officials, EPA and New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection representatives will attend the meeting on Monday.

The event is free and refreshments will be served. Parking is free in the Red Hawk parking deck level 5. For more information, call 973-655-7648.
