Feeling Adventurous? Give Orienteering at Eagle Rock Reservation a Try

Courses are available for beginners and the experienced. An introductory course is available for newbies.

The thrill of conquering hills, streams and forests are exhilarating as they are -- so take it one step further and turn it into a game that also engages your mind.

Hudson Valley Orienteering is hosting an orienteering course Sunday for beginners and the experienced alike.

Participants will receive a map marked with various checkpoints demonstrating a course that will take them to the white and orange flag markers called controls. Once at the correct control, participants must punch in to prove they arrived at the indicated location.

The beginners course is approximately 1 to 1.5 miles long and is idea for children and adults who have never done orienteering before. Courses may be completed in a group or individually.

The fee for entry is $7 for those 20 years and under, $12 for ages 21 and older and $12 for groups of two regardless of age, plus $2 for any addition group members above age 8.

An introductory course will take place at 10:30 a.m. until noon. Registration will take place in the picnic area until 1 p.m. with the courses closing at 3 p.m.
