Beat the Heat in West Orange

A few cooling centers are open in town for residents to beat the dog days of summer.

The West Orange Township has opened two cooling centers in town for residents to beat the heat this week. 

  • Town Hall will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for residents 
  • The West Orange Public Library at 46 Mount Pleasant Ave. will be open from Wednesday 10 a.m.-9 p.m., Thursday 10 a.m. -9 p.m. and Friday 10 a.m. -5:30 p.m. 
Additionally, the Essex County Codey Arena will be open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Coordinator of the Essex County Office of Emergency Management Sheriff Armando Fontoura announced. 

Temperatures are expected to stay in the mid-90s through Friday until thunderstorms are predicted to break the heat wave on this weekend, according to The Weather Channel.
