Arts Organization Calls Upon Local Artists for Submissions

ValleyArts is looking for submissions for its inaugural Open Orange juried exhibition by March 9.

Artists from New Jersey and the New York metropolitan area are invited to submit their works for ValleyArts' inaugural Open Orange juried exhibition at the ValleyArts Firehouse Gallery this spring.

The deadline is March 9 for Submissions of Paintings, Photography, Prints, Mixed-Media, and Works on Paper to be displayed ta the ValleyArts Firehouse Gallery and nearby spaces in the Valley Arts District of Orange and West Orange.

Online image submission of works in any 2D medium - including paintings, photographs, prints, mixed-media works and works on paper are due by March 9, and will be evaluated by a distinguished team of jurors, ValleyArts announced.

One top prize, Best in Show, will offer an artist the opportunity for a one-person exhibition at the Firehouse Galley in the 2014-15 season.

"The new Open Orange juried exhibition continues our initiative to serve artists and feature the best of the arts from our community and the surrounding region," said Richard Bryant, executive director of ValleyArts. "The Firehouse Gallery, a beautiful space which opened just last year, has already proved to be a popular venue. Our plan for this exhibition is that it will continue to spread the word about the burgeoning arts community in Orange and West Orange, sparking even more interactivity and interconnection with artists throughout New Jersey and the greater metropolitan area."

The jurors who will evaluate and select the works are Antonio Sergio Bessa, director of curatorial and educational programs for the Bronx Museum; Diedra Harris-Kelley, co-director of the Romare Bearden Foundation; and Naima J. Keith, assistant curator of the Studio Museum of Harlem.

Artists may submit up to three works with maximum dimensions of 36" x 36," including frame.  All original artwork in any 2D format will be considered (paintings, drawings, photographs, prints and mixed-media 2D works).

There is a non-refundable $35 entry fee per application. Entry fees and applications must be submitted online by March 9.
