RETURN OF PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES FOR 6TH GRADE PARENTS AT THOMAS EDISON MIDDLE SCHOOL 11/18, 19 & 20

In an effort to help parents support their 6th grade students in the transition from elementary school to middle school a return of the Parent/Teacher conference is being instituted at Thomas Edison Middle School on November 18, 19, and 20, 2013 12:40 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Students will have a half-day schedule on these dates.

“The return of the parent/teacher conference solidifies our vision and mission to have partnership with the parents, by integrating parents into the educational process, to make their students successful,” said Principal Xavier Fitzgerald. “We are a transitional middle school and this program helps both parent sand students transition to the middle school model.”

Parents/Guardians will have access to schedule their own individual teacher conferences using Pick-A-Time, an Internet-based appointment system.  Parents may begin scheduling conference appointments on Monday, November 4th at 8:00 a.m. The link to the Pick-A-Time system will remain available until Thursday, November 14th at 3:00 p.m. The link can be found at the top of the left column of the main Edison school home page page under quick links at http://www.woboe.org/thomasedison/Pages/Home.aspx or at https://pickatime.com/client?ven=11608162. Parents will schedule an appointment time with each teacher that they are interested in speaking with in either a core subject or a specific class.

“This Parent/Teacher conference is more about interfacing with specific teachers whether a student is happy with class, or a parent has concerns about a class. This is not mandatory experience,” said Asst. Principal Steve Melendez. “If you don’t have the need, or want to meet with your child’s whole team, a parent can still schedule a team meeting with their guidance counselor and all of their teachers at any time.”

P/T meetings are scheduled on a first come first serve basis in ten-minute appointment increments. In addition, related arts teachers (Gym, Music, Spanish, Keyboarding, Art and Health) will be on hand in the gymnasium on a walk in basis.

If you can’t make afternoon sessions can call guidance to schedule time for a team or individual teacher conference. A letter outlining directions to the Pick-A-Time system was sent home during the week of October 28th. Please contact your child's guidance counselor if you have any questions at 973-669-5360.
