Israel Arts Expo at B’nai Shalom Brings, Art, Music, Learning, Shopping, and Family Fun to West Orange, October 27-31

B’nai Shalom will host a celebration of Israeli culture from Saturday evening, October 27 through Wednesday, October 31. Highlights include an Israel Art Expo with artist Moshe Bar Kocva, a concert of music by American Jewish composers, activities for children and a discussion with Gil Hoffman, JNF presenter and chief political correspondent for The Jerusalem Post.

The Israel Arts Expo is free of charge and open to everyone. All events will be held at the Morris & Miriam Hammer Campus, 300 Pleasant Valley Way, West Orange.

Saturday, October 27

  • 7:30 pm: Artist Moshe Bar Kocva showcases original work dozens of Israeli artists. Jewelry, Judaica, woodwork, paintings, sculpture, and more are available for every budget, from $2.00 to $2,000.00.
  • 8:00 pm: “Jewish Songwriters, American Songs” – Seth Salzman, piano, and Don Batchelder, trumpet, perform the music of George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern and Harold Arlen, and discuss the Jewish influence on the American popular songbook.

Sunday, October 28, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm:

  • Artist Moshe Bar Kocva showcases original work by Israeli artists.
  • “Holy Rollers” – a Sofer (Torah scribe) demonstrates how to care for and check Torah scrolls, and will inspect your mezzuzot and tefillin.
  • 11 am: A demonstration of Krav Maga, the Israeli Martial Art.
  • Israeli informational films and representatives from the Legow Family Israel Program Center.
  • “Shalom Sesame” and other activities for children
  • Scholastic Book Fair hosted by the Religious School Board. 9:00am – 12:00noon

Monday, October 29, 10:00 am – 8:00 pm:

  • Artist Moshe Bar Kochva showcases original work by Israeli artists.
  • Scholastic Book Fair hosted by the Religious School Board 9:00am – 12:00noon

Tuesday, October 30, 10:00 am – 8:00 pm:

  • Artist Moshe Bar Kochva showcases original work by Israeli artists.
  • 7 pm: “Red States, Blue States and the Jewish State: an Insider’s Perspective on the U.S. Election’s Impact on Israel,” a discussion with Gil Hoffman, chief political correspondent and analyst for The Jerusalem Post.
  • Scholastic Book Fair hosted by the Religious School Board 3:00pm – 7:00pm

Wednesday, October 31, 10:00 am – 8:00 pm

Artist Moshe Bar Kochva showcases original work by Israeli artists.

B'nai Shalom is an egalitarian and traditional synagogue led by Rabbi Robert L. Tobin. The synagogue is informal and welcoming. It offers many different services, including some specifically for children, such as Shabbat Fun for ages 3 - 5 and Mini Minyan for ages 8 - 11. It also boasts active Adult Education, Sisterhood and USY teen programming. The religious school is a "Schechter School of Excellence," and their Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation is highly skilled and personal.
