During the entire week following Hurricane Sandy Winchester Gardens like much of Maplewood and South Orange was without power. Except for their nursing home population their residents were without heat, light, hot water, or hot meals from the dining room. Hallways and stairwells were pitch black. Despite this they are not issuing even a partial credit to residents on their costly monthly maitainence fee. Who knew a week of cold, darkness, and sandwhiches was so costly...

It seems as if residents of Maplewood are trying to get an ombudsman between the city and facility.
The facility was completely unprepared for the storm.

It's hard to believe that there were not battery operated lights in the halls and no generator to heat and light main room and dining areas.
