Yup, you read it right! Major stars are in a new movie set in West Orange, New Jersey. It's called The Oranges and features stars from popular TV shows like Hugh Laurie, Oliver Platt and Allison Janney.
Okay, from the previews nothing looks quite familiar to me, but to have my hometown name given a big SHOUT OUT in a movie is fine by me (as long as it's funny or nice).
This just may be a fun, great way to bring some attention to the town of West Orange, New Jersey; bringing it into people's minds over and over again as the commercial runs. You never know, someone may just put the town on their list of places to move to and search for West Orange homes for sale just be cause of this movie. Maybe people will want to drive through to see if they see anything familiar and end up patronizing some of the local stores. Maybe it will increase the positive perception of the town from people who have never been here.
I didn't stop to search where it was playing, but I may have to check it out. Either way, a major comedy movie set in West Orange, NJ with commercial running saying our town name: priceless.
You go, West Orange!

Does someone involved in the making of this movie have connections to WO? Just curious as to why they chose this town.

Interesting. Remember these other West Orange films: "Mall Cop", which centered around the fictitious West Orange Mall. "Little Children", with Kate Winslet, was filmed around many locations in West Orange, but no credit given. We watched a great deal of filming that happened at the Ginny Dunkel Pool. And of course last, but not least "The Sopranos" filmed behind the West Orange Police station.

"The Sopranos" filmed in a number of locations in West Orange: Pal's Cabin, Green Hill Nursing Home, Rascal's Comedy Club and Pleasantdale Chateau (where they also held their annual NJ premier parties) among them.
The "back story" to the show was that Tony was a 1976 graduate of WOHS and what was allegedly his varsity football letter (maroon & white) was shown in one episode.

Unfortunately, the principle photography was done in New Rochelle and, as an added note, the film features a hot sheet, no tell, Essex Fells Motel which is sure to enamor the residents there!

it is quite obvious that the movie may say West Orange but was definitely not filmed here!

Yup, it probably wasn't filmed here, it has crazy silly plot...but, it opens with OUR town sign and that is cool. You know all of that other stuff but to an outside person the town West Orange, NJ registered in their head, maybe for the very first time. That's all I'm saying. We can't buy that type of town name promotion.
Enjoy your day.

You're 100% right and it's all in good fun and, like they say, there's no such thing as bad publicity!

New Rochelle looks exquisite. I wonder what their taxes are like.
