"Every man has the right to risk his own life in order to preserve it. Has it ever been said that a man who throws himself out the window to escape from a fire is guilty of suicide?"
Jean-Jacques Rousseau
While a few of my old neighbors are remembering their own memories of Mary Kennedy, other neighbors merely co-exist in the affluent town. I am from Bedford. My nightmare with an abusive exhusband took place in Bedford. Sharing a town with Glenn Close and Chevy Chase - Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. continues to live there. Even after the death of his estranged wife.
Some things disturb me to the point of where I am feeling explosive. That is a huge accomplishment for me - and my therapist! For so many years, the reaction was beaten out of me by my exhusband. No more. I am pissed!
The media's misinterpretations, the legal system's lack of justice; and powerful people manipulating the truths to get them off the hook ----yup, I am angry.
The morning I heard of Mary Kennedy's death, I cried. It could have been me. Dead in Bedford, New York.
Then, I read what was being written about her, her suicide - and it felt like a fire started deep in my belly. Until I was yelling at a newspaper article on the kitchen table! Damn! With WOR radio tuned in, I simultaneously heard a talk show real estate specialist describe Mary as "troubled"!
Robert Kennedy. What he did to his wife was as good as killing her himself. Mary - troubled? Who wouldn't be? Have your husband cheat, threaten to take your children, cut you off financially? Sound familiar? You have read it all here on my blog. And if Mary were alive today, she could have written of her experiences. Only she did not have the support that I have found on my own journey.
A tragedy that rocks my insides, I see a personal connection to the demise of Mary Kennedy. The appallition transforms into disbelief. Can a powerful figure in the Bedford community really maneuver the United States' news and communications networks?
We heard what Mary's famous husband wanted us to hear.
