Edison Redevelopment Stalls and Ex-PTA President in Court Top This Week's News on Patch

Edison Redevelopment Stalls at Planning Board

The Edison redevelopment continues to remain in limbo as the Planning Board does not vote on the changes to the site plan for a second consecutive meeting.

Former PTA President in Court of Friday

Deborah Sanchez, the former Mount Pleasant Elementary School PTA president, appeared in Superior Court on Friday in Newark to face charges related to stealing more than $100,000 in PTA funds. 

Sanchez faces charges of second-degree theft and third-degree forgery for allegedly taking more than $100,000 worth of PTA funds between January 2008 and November 2010. She was indicted on July 11.

Franklin Tavern Becomes Second Bar Burglarized Last Week

Franklin Tavern, 97-99 Franklin St., had its front door pried open and $100 taken from a cash register on Thursday.

Franklin Tavern was the second bar burglarized this week after Los Tapatios, 10 Main St., had $1,850 taken from two of its registers on July 29. 

String of Burglaries in Town Possibly Related

Three separate residential burglaries on Monday were said to be related by the West Orange Police Department. 

Township Adds to Open Space

The property at 7 Belgrade Terrace becomes the most recent acquisition of open space in town.

The township acquired the 10,000 square-foot lot at the start of July for approximately $60,000 using money from the Open Space Trust Fund and the township.

August is West Orange Traffic Awareness Month

Mayor Robert Parisi announced last week that August is West Orange Traffic Awareness Month. 

The West Orange Police Department will work with the Nikhil Badlani Foundation for the next few weeks to bring more attention to this issue.

Stop by the Animal Welfare League and visit Mom Cat or any of the other animals today. The facility is located at 311 Watchung Ave. (behind the Thomas Edison National Historical Park), and is open Monday through Friday from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
