West Orange Police Looking For Public Help in Assessment
WOPD is asking the public to help offer an assessment of their department.
The West Orange Police Department is looking for help from the public to better examine its policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services.
A team of assessors from the Commission on the Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies will be examining the department on Dec. 15. As part of the on-site assessment, department employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session on Dec. 17 at 5 p.m. at the Municipal Courtroom on Main Street.
The assessment team is composed of law enforcement practitioners from out-of-state agencies. Once the Commission’s assessors complete their review of the agency, they will then decide if the agency is to be granted continued accredited status.
The police department must comply with 183 standards in order to achieve accredited status. Accreditation is for three years, during which the agency must submit annual reports attesting to their continued compliance with those standards under which it was initially accredited.
If a resident cannot attend the public information session, but would still like to provide comments to the assessment team, they may call 973-325-4174 on Monday, Dec. 17 between the hours of 2-4 p.m. Email comments can also be sent to RMcdonald@westorange.org.
Telephone comments and appearances at the public information session are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards. A copy of the standards is available at the West Orange Police Department. Residents should contact the Accreditation office at either 973-325-4007 or 973-325-4174.
Anyone wishing to offer written comments about the West Orange Police Department’s ability to comply with the standards for accreditation is requested to write:
