The West Orange African Heritage Organization hosted a Kwanzaa celebration last week at Edison School in West Orange.

The night included performances by the Essex County Performance Ensemble, the West Orange Jubilee Choir and the West Orange High School Boys Step Team.

Emmanuel "Baba" Anim Sackey was the guest speaker and was later honored for his leadership and excellence. Sackey founded Adopt One Village, a nonprofit that aims to help his village in Ghana.

Mayor Robert Parisi, township council officials and members of the board of education were also in attendance of the two-hour event.
