WHAT: Fire Prevention Open House at WOPL
WHERE: West Orange Public Library
WHEN: Saturday 10am
WHY GO: Come to the West Orange Fire Department Open House - come squirt a fire hose and see the raising of a 110 ft. aerial ladder. Also there will be hazard house demonstrations, fire safety tips, give-aways and refreshments
WHAT: Fall Brookdale Park Fine Art and Craft Show
WHERE: Brookdale Park, Grove St & Watchung Ave, Montclair, NJ
WHEN: Saturday & Sunday 10am – 5pm
WHY GO: Over 160 exhibitors from New Jersey and throughout the Northeast will exhibit their jewelry, furniture, glass, fiber, pottery, oils, watercolors, serigraphs, photography, leather, sculpture, wood and more. The show will be accented with music and a variety of ethnic foods. Unlimited parking is available from the Watchung Ave. entrance. The free to the public show is open on Saturday and Sunday - rain or shine.
WHAT: A Full Record: The Lab Notebooks of Thomas Edison
WHERE: Thomas Edison National Historical Park
WHEN: Saturday 2:30pm
WHY GO: Join museum archivist, Lenny DeGraaf, as he presents an illustrated talk on the notebooks and other experimental records kept by Thomas Edison at his Menlo Park and West Orange Laboratories. Learn how Edison documented his work and the significance of these practices to his innovation strategy.
COST: Park Admission is $7 and Children under 16 are free.
WHAT: Screening of Someday Melissa
WHERE: The Leon & Toby Cooperman JCC, 760 Northfield Ave, West Orange, NJ
WHEN: Sunday 2pm
WHY GO: Come to the Free screen of “Someday Melissa”, a moving true story of an eating disorder, loss and hope. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with the film's producers, mental health professionals and eating disorder experts.
WHAT: Fall Hike: The Wildflower and Forest Preserve
WHERE: South Mountain Reservation
WHEN: Sunday 10am
WHY GO: Join us for a tour of the trails in the Wildflower and Forest Preserve. Meet at the Dog Park off Crest Drive. No need to register; just come to the meeting point a little before the starting time. All events are free. Steady rain automatically cancels a walk, intermittent showers do not. All hikes are appropriate for children 10 and older with their families.
WHAT: Mayor's 5K Run/Walk to Break the Silence of Ovarian Cancer
WHERE: West Orange Town Hall
WHEN: Sunday 8am - Runners Registration; 9:30 - Kid Run; 10am - 5K Walk/Run
WHY GO: Three quarters of the approximately 20,000 women annually diagnosed with ovarian cancer succumb to the disease. Ovarian Cancer... It Whispers, So Listen!

WHAT: "3rd Annual Walk for Mike and Vin" at Seton Hall Prep
WHERE: 700 Prospect Ave, West Orange
WHEN: Sunday 9am
WHY GO: The 5K Walk/Jog/Run for Mike and Vin at the Kelly Athletic Center on Prospect Avenue on Sunday is a chance to celebrate the lives of Mike McCormick and Vinnie Simone, both of whom died on Aug. 2, 2009 in a tragic car accident. Everyone is welcome to come and walk a little, eat a little and remember the boys. Rain or Shine.

WHY GO: Essex County is offering a free, outdoor showing of Monster House (PG) where three teens discover that their neighbor's house is really a living, breathing, scary monster. Safe family fun!

WHY GO: Come visit this creepy genetically modified food processing factory as an “employee.” You will meet your deranged co-workers and see what the boss is feeding them for lunch. Beware: Many of the new employees don't make it through the night shift!
COST: $30 For Rapid Processing Ticket (VIP), $18 for Adults, $15 for Children 12 and under. ** “Not-so-Scary” Kids’ Sunday Matinees from 2 pm-6 pm. Tickets are $8 a person and adults must be accompanied by a child age 12 and under.

COST: Admission to the stadium is free, but most activities will have a fee. Admission to the haunted house is $20 for adults and $15 for students. The hayride is $5, and games are $1. Mystery dinner reservations must by made by the Wednesday prior and cost $20, or $25 for dinner with wine/beer.
