Second Burglary of a Bar This Week
Franklin Tavern in West Orange opens Thursday to find door pried open, money missing.
A second bar in the downtown area was burglarized this week during the early morning hours.
Franklin Tavern, 97-99 Franklin St., had its front door pried open and $100 taken from a cash register on Thursday. The burglary happened sometime between 2 a.m. when the bar closed and when it opened around 11 a.m.
The bar was not ransacked, and there was no surveillance footage taken of the burglary, said West Orange police Sgt. Joe Spero.
The burglary is still under investigation.
This marks the second time this week a bar was burglarized. Los Tapatios, 10 Main St., had $1,850 taken from two cash registers on Sunday. The burglary also happened between the time the bar closed and opened that day.
Spero said the two burglarizes were “possibly related,” and at this time the department is not ruling anything out.

Wow! It is getting dangerous! I cannot begin to imagine what will happen when they finish the high rise apartment on Main Street. High rise apartment in down town areas breeds gangs and criminals.

Why would that be? Is low income housing or even section 8 housing being proposed for the site? If all "high rise apartments in downtown areas breed gangs and criminals" wouldn't that include all luxury housing as is proposed here? Last time I checked none of that is happening with the luxury housing recently built in places like downtown Brooklyn, lower Manhattan or even Hoboken. By the way, since when is non-violent crimes like burglary an indication that violent crime is on the rise? Crime is down nationally overall, while burglary is up slightly.

Curt, the Frank clearly has a safe. It was only exactly $100 in the till. Probably set up for tomorrow's morning shift.

No Steven, it's a terribly weak attempt at a point. First of all, it has been suggested that the burglary last week was an inside job, rendering ludicrous Cody's attempt to suggest that the area is "getting dangerous." That is compounded by their horribly misinformed and irresponsible assertion that "gangs and criminals" are some natural result of developing high rise apartments. For that matter, I wasn't aware that these buildings even qualify to be distinguished as high rise. I was always led to believe that High Rise was any building over 12 stories.

Hi David,
May I ask how many "large multiple level" RENTAL dwellings are in West Orange .

You may ask, but I don't know. Nor do I understand the point of your question.

To whomever burglarized the Frank (Franklin Tavern) I dare, infact I implore you to be a real man, and try to.commit a real robbery and not a burglary. While u were inside, did you see the wall of almost a dozen Marines Army Soldiers, Navy & Natioal Guardsman? Even if you came in w/A.K's, C.S gas, tazers & body armor we would Fk up your whole world. Don't do something like that unless you are rdy for the consequences. And I promise you that once we're done w/u you'll be begging for the cops to lock u up in county. Where you'll be safer than you'd be in OUR HOMETOWN BAR! The owner AMD bartenders are like Family to us. You clearly picked the wrong bar u reject.

Jay,
Thanks for the information...Did not know about the relationship between West Orange residents and the owner...
When you get the piece of garbage, save a little for me.
