Police: Three Masked Men Rob Man, Steal Car Sunday

Resident tells police he was robbed by trio with double-barrel shotgun in Essex Green Shopping Center.

West Orange police are searching for three men who allegedly robbed a 46-year-old resident of his car and wallet at gunpoint late Sunday afternoon in the ShopRite parking lot of the Essex Green Shopping Center, police said.

According to police, while the West Orange resident put groceries in the back seat of his car at about 6 p.m. on March 31, three men approached him with what was believed to be a double-barrel shotgun.

The man told police the men demanded his car keys and one of the men said, "give me all your money and your wallet."

According to police, the car owner gave the men his wallet and keys and the three men fled. The man then ran back into ShopRite to call police. 

The car owner described the men as between 18 and 25 years old, black and approximately 5-foot-8. Two of the men were thin and one had a medium build. All three wore bandanas covering their faces.

West Orange police located the stolen car on Route 280 eastbound a short time later and pursued the car into Newark.  However, officers broke off the chase at the intersection of Clinton Avenue and Leslie Street in the city citing public safety concerns.
