This is very disturbing, especially since the homes had alarm systems. We're the alarm systems not armed?

Wonder if it was person or persons who worked for all three households.

The articles states, "All three homes were wired with alarm systems, which were triggered during the burglaries. Surveillance footage was captured of one of the burglaries."

If they meant what they wrote, all 3 alarms must have been armed.

I wonder if the alarm system service was active on all 3 homes where police are automatically dispatched or if the service was not active and only the 'audible' alarm went off when 'triggered'.

Alarms are only a deterent, once the alarm is set off it dial a central station. The central station then calls the home. If there is no answer or the person answering cannot give a password, the central station then calls the local police. the local police then dispatches an officer to the location. they say average response time is 8 minutes. Most "kick in" burglars know this and they ransack the mater bedroom where most money and valuables are stored and then leave. That usually takes about 2 minutes. The moral of the story is even with an alarm do not keep your money and valuables in the master bedroom!!!!

Great advice Barry. Unfortunately, most people are not going to be so diligent. Also keep in mind that most burglars are opportunists, so they are likely scoping out the area several times before the decide to hit specific homes. Something as simple as keeping a light and/or radio on is more of a deterrent than most people realize as it keeps them guessing. They are less likely to hit a home where they believe someone is always home.

@Barry - I agree, which is why I would never pay 40 bucks a month for a monitored alarm. The alarm in my home was installed by a previous owner, so I can still set it to audible whenever I want, it just won't notify ADT. As you said, by the time all parties are notified the burglar is going to be long gone. There is a better chance of my neighbors running outside after hearing the alarm and at least catching a glimpse of the burglar.

If you have real valuables, get a safe that is heavy enough that it cannot be carried out by an individual, and store it in the attic or basement where it will take too long to find.

@Tom G,@David Peart nobody ever looks when a car or house alarm rings. There are two reasons to have an alarm, for when you are home so you know if there is an intruder and when you arrive home so you don't walk in on an intruder. Remember a cornered animal is the most dangerous. if your alarm is ringing when you get home go back to your car lock the doors and call the police. i keep everything properly insured, possesions are replaceable loved ones are not.

@Barry, I was speaking of your advice not to keep valuables in your bedroom. Most folks are going to throw their watches and other jewelry into their pretty jewelry box on top of their dresser and keep it moving. They're most likely not going to the basement safe to put their valuables away while they're out for the day. I agree that monitored alarms can be a valuable tool. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. In my case, the alarm was effective 50% of the time, as its record is 1 capture and 1 escape in 2 burglaries.

@David I knew you meant moving the valuables, but fully insured is important just in case.

Define "Valuable". In any case, it's a crime of opportunity..location, location, location...then it's a quick shot to 280 East....
