Police Blotter: Stolen TVs, Gun Possession, Drug Arrests
Information provided by the West Orange Police Department. The following arrest information does not indicate a conviction.
Burglary to Synagogue: Police said a TV was stolen from Congregation AABJ&D on Pleasant Valley Way in West Orange.
According to the incident report, a member of the congregation arrived Thursday morning for services and noticed the TV was missing from the wall in the lobby area. The TV had recently been mounted on the wall.
A review of the surveillance cameras showed a black man with long dreads, a blue sleeveless vest jacket and blue long-sleeve shirt leaving with the TV around 4 a.m. Thursday, police said. The TV is valued at $400.
The video showed the man running down the driveway on the north side of the building and opening the door with an unknown tool. He was later seen running up the driveway with the television, according to the report.
Burglary to Home: Another TV was allegedly taken from a home on Franklin Avenue in West Orange Sunday afternoon, police said. They said the suspect(s) entered the home through a back door and shattered a glass window by unknown means. Once inside, a flat-screen TV, valued at roughly $200, was taken from the bedroom, according to the incident report.
Gun Possession: Police arrested a West Orange man and a Newark man after they were allegedly found in possession of drugs and a loaded gun. According to the incident report, police pulled over a tan Mercedes Sunday night on Main Street. When police approached the car, the Newark man who was in the driver's seat, began pushing an unknown object down his pants. Police said they frisked the man and found a loaded semi-automatic gun. A bag of drugs was also found on both men.
Drug Possession: Police arrested a man last Wednesday afternoon after he was allegedly found in possession of drugs and paraphernalia. According to the incident report, police pulled over a Ford Taurus on Joyce Street in West Orange. The driver stepped out of the car and was clutching a small white paper fold, police said. Additional folds, believed to contain heroin, and hypodermic needles were found in the car, the report said. The man was charged with possession of heroin, possession of paraphernalia and possession of hypodermic needles.
Students Found with Drugs: West Orange High School students were allegedly found distributing drugs on school property, according to police. The school conducted an administrative search on two students after they were overheard in the restroom, police said. One student was found with three Xanex pills and charged with drug possession. The other juvenile was charged with distributing drugs on school property.
