Police Blotter: Stolen Property, Cars, Attempted Burglary

The front entrance of Chestnut Liquors in West Orange suffered damage to the front door after a brick was used to attempt to break into the store, police said. On Nov. 20, the store's alarm went off but police said entry was not gained.

Police say $8,000 was allegedly stolen from a car after the owner arrived at Pleasantdale Chateau in West Orange and turned his vehicle into the valet. Last Sunday, the owner dropped off his 2008 Audi to four men working as valets. He told police he left $8,000 in hundred dollar bills in the side door. The next day, the owner found his vehicle waiting for him with no valet. He told police he parked it and locked it. When he returned from breakfast and drove home, the envelope full of cash was gone.

An abandoned building on Main Street was allegedly burglarized, police say. Between Nov. 12 and Nov. 16, a $550 leaf blower, a $400 weed wacker and $60 of hand tools were apparently taken. Police said it is not known how the building was breached but the building is not able to be fully secured because of its size.

A car was allegedly stripped of its two front tires, police said. A 2003 Honda was parked on Old Short Hills Road when its tires, valued at $100, were taken between Nov. 14 and Nov. 16.

A defective generator valued at $500 was apparently taken from a house on Haller Road between Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, police said. They said the owner placed the generator in front of his garage door for pick-up by Lowe's but the machine was taken before Lowe's was able to pick it up.

A UPS package was taken from a home on Baxter Lane on Nov. 8, police said. The package allegedly contained more than $900 in JCrew items.

A car was allegedly stolen from Oxford Terrace in West Orange on Nov. 20 police said. The owner of the 1995 car said he saw his vehicle being pulled by a dark-colored four-door vehicle. He said the vehicle was taking his Acura towards the city of Orange.
