Police Blotter: Rash of Burglaries to Motor Vehicles, Car Thefts

Information provided by the West Orange Police Department

 

    The West Orange Police Department reported the following for the week of Sept. 25 to Oct. 2:

    • A wallet and a GPS were allegedly stolen from a parked vehicle on Walker Road in West Orange between 9 p.m. on Sept. 25 and 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 26., police said. The GPS is valued at approximately $250. The wallet contained $20, a debit card, a credit card and the vehicle's registration card. Police said the car was unlocked and parked in the owner's driveway.
    • Police said a radio faceplate, radio console, and several other vehicle accessories were allegedly taken from a car left at the Delta Gas Station on 3 Central Ave. between Sept. 20 -22 for repair work. According to the police report, the stolen parts total $410. Police said there was no sign of forced entry to the car.
    • A car was allegedly stolen from a rear parking lot on 132 Main Street in West Orange, police said. The white 2007 Volvo S60 was taken sometime between Sept. 24 -Sept. 25, according to the police report. Inside the auto were men's clothes valued at $100 and a gym bag with various items valued at $100, police said.
    • Paperwork stolen from a parked car was found on the front steps of the owner's home stuffed in a black bag Sunday morning, police said. They said a neighbor found the bag on the corner of Warren and Nance Roads containing the paperwork and left it on the owner's front steps. The owner then realized his 2011 Mercedes Benz had been left unlocked and told police. Nothing else was reported missing from the car, according to the police report.
    • Police said $500 was allegedly taken from a maroon Honda Pilot after the owners gave the car to the valet driver around 7 p.m. Saturday. According to the police report, the valet began driving away with the car when the owner realized he left an envelope with $500 inside. When the owner looked inside the car, the money was missing, police said.
    • A car's window was apparently smashed with an unknown object on Beverly Road in West Orange Saturday night, officials said. Police said suspect(s) were able to unlock the doors of the 2006 Jetta Volkswagon and ransack the car. No items were reported missing, according to the police report.
    • Police said a car manual was allegedly taken from a vehicle parked in a driveway on Beverly Road in West Orange Saturday night. According to the police report, the suspect(s) entered an unlocked 2011 Acura MDX and removed the owner's manual. The manual was later recovered inside another burglarized car, police said.
    • A 2008 Lexus was apparently stolen from a resident's driveway on Cullen Drive in West Orange, police said. The resident said her car was likely left unlocked. According to the incident report, the theft happened Saturday night into Sunday morning. An i-Pod was also taken from a 2002 Lexus LX430 that was parked in the same driveway, police said. The car was believed to be left unlocked.
    • An i-Pod was allegedly taken from a 2011 Hyundai Sonnata parked in a driveway on Warren Road, police said. They said there was no damage to the car's door handles, alarm system or locks. The i-Pod, valued at $200 was stolen Saturday night.
    • A car parked on Warren Road in West Orange was apparently ransacked Saturday night, police said. According to the police report, the car's paperwork, registration and insurance card were taken. The owners told police the vehicle was locked with the alarm activated. The 2008 Lexus RX350 showed no signs of damage to the door or alarm system, police said.
    • A 2004 Acura was apparently burglarized while parked next to a residence on Mt. Pleasant Avenue. Police said the car's paperwork was taken sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning. The paperwork was recovered at the intersection of Carlson and Colonial Woods Drive by police. The owner said the car was locked. Police said the auto showed no damage to the door locks or handles.
    • Police said an unlocked 2007 Cadillac sports utility vehicle was allegedly ransacked while parked in a driveway on Warren Road in West Orange. A New Jersey driver's license, two credit cards and $40 were taken from the car Sunday morning.
    • Suspect(s) allegedly broke into a car on Rand Drive Saturday night but took nothing, police said. The  owner of the 2001 Audi A6 said he found all four windows of his car halfway down with the sun roof open. Police said a tool was used to pry the driver's side door lock and the vehicle's ignition causing damage to the car.
    • A woman's 2005 BMW X5 was apparently broken into while it was parked at the West Orange Tennis Club on Pleasant Valley Way Sunday morning, police said. A $150 purse, cell phone, driver's license and five credit cards were taken from the car, according to the police report. Police said the car's left, front window of the driver's side was smashed with an unknown tool.
    • A West Orange resident recovered her vehicle after the state police auto unit located the car in a container at Port Elizabeth. The 2009 Mercedes GL was originally stolen Aug. 31, police said.
