Police Blotter: Burglaries to Home, Offices

Police said the front glass door of Chestnut Liquors in West Orange appeared to have sustained damage from an unknown object. The incident was reported on Oct. 31 around 2 p.m. Police said the damage may have been caused by a baseball bat. Chestnut Liquors shuttered after eight men were arrested from the store in an apparent drug raid. The store is currently up for sale.
A 2010 Mazda was apparently stolen last week while parked with the engine running on Watson Avenue, police said. The owner told police she left the car running to warm up the vehicle last Wednesday morning.
A woman was allegedly robbed while walking to her West Orange home from the Highland Avenue New Jersey Transit station. Police said the woman was walking home on Orange Heights Avenue last Friday night when a black female approached her, grabbed her pocketbook and her bag. Police said a black man appeared and both suspects allegedly frisked her and unzipped her jacket. The suspects then placed an unknown hard object on the left side of her head. The suspects released the victim who was able to walk home and call the police. Orange police officers pursued a duo that matched the description on foot but lost the individuals near Scotland Road and Frankfort Street.
An office on Pleasant Valley Way in West Orange was allegedly burglarized last week, according to police. Authorities said the suspect(s) stole roughly $1,000 worth of computer equipment including a laptop worth $500, Microsoft Office Software worth $150 and batteries worth $96. The manager of the office said she locked the door before she left the office that last Wednesday night but returned the next morning to find the office unlocked and ransacked. Police said there was no sign of forced entry.
Another office on Northfield Avenue was ransacked last Wednesday night, police said. Almost $2,00o in equipment was taken including software programs valued at $500 each, a digital camera and two cell phones. Police said the front door showed no signs of forced entry. The owner of the office space said he had recently moved into the building but said the locks on the door were not changed. Police continue investigating the incident.
A second floor apartment on White Street in West Orange was burglarized last Thursday afternoon, police said. According to the resident, roughly $10,000 worth of recording studio equipment and electronics were taken. Police said suspect(s) gained entry entry through a closed but unlocked rear window. Stolen equipment included watches valued at $1,500 each, a keyboard, a laptop, a recording studio microphone, a TV and DVD player.

If those people can prove they are the registered owners of the stolen software they should be able to get other copies.
