Police Arrest East Orange Man for Burglary, Paraphernalia

An East Orange man was arrested by police after he was allegedly found carrying stolen items and paraphernalia in his pocket along Main Street in West Orange.
Vincent Thomas, 37, was charged with two counts of burglary, theft, trespassing and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police received a call from a resident on Gregory Avenue last Tuesday night alleging she had spotted a man running through her backyard. Authorities said they found Thomas walking in a "fast pace" on Main Street and Lindsley Avenue wearing wet and muddied pants.
After officials noticed a glass pipe protruding from Thomas' pocket, he was apprehended and searched. A cell phone, phone charger and a gold colored bracelet were recovered.
Once in custody, Thomas admitted he ransacked two unlocked cars, taking a cell phone and a gold bracelet, according to the police report.
The two cars included a 2001 Mercedes Benz. The vehicles were burglarized on Brookside Road and Gregory Avenue, police said.
Thomas has 23 felony convictions in New Jersey and additional felony convictions in Florida.

Got to love the system. 23 Felony convictions + more and the man just seems to always be out free. I give him 1 month tops of jail time before he's out on the street again doing the same stuff if not worse. NJ really needs a 3 strike law. Half these hoodrats would be off the street. They should just build a mega prison somewhere in south jersey so they dont have to worry about overhousing in the prisons.

Pretty sure NJ does have one, but it only applies to violent crimes; robbery would apply, but I guess burglary doesn't? What I'd like to know is how you can get 23 felony convictions and not be in jail for the maximum sentence on each of them after your second or third offense -- you'd think he'd be away for a decent stretch each time and would be way older than 37 by now.
