Police: Armed Robbery on Main Street Leaves Man with No Cell Phone

Information provided by the West Orange Police Department

A West Orange resident told police three black men allegedly took his phone after brandishing a loaded gun on Main Street.

According to the police report, the resident was walking south on Main Street near Washington Street when he was approached by three black males last Tuesday night shortly before 8 p.m.

One of the men turned toward the resident and said, "What's up?" The resident ignored him and was grabbed by the shoulder. The same suspect again addressed the resident, "Where you going, what you got?" he said and asked the resident to turn over the cell phone he was carrying in his hand. The resident refused, prompting the suspect to allegedly brandish a black handgun, police said. The resident told police the suspect cocked the gun three times. He said he then handed over his cell phone, was padded down and told to run.

The resident described the suspects to police and said one was wearing a black doorag, a black vest, a white t-shirt, blue jeans and was approximately six feet tall with a heavy build. He said the second individual was dark skinned, with a short hairstyle, wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans, with a muscular build and 6'4" tall. The third individual was described as 5'7" tall with short hair, a thin build and roughly 135 lbs with a blue Aeropostale sweatshirt and blue jeans.

The cell phone is valued at $250 according to the report.

Anyone with information is urged to call the West Orange Police Department at (973) 325-4020.
