New Places to Chow Down in the Valley District

Three restaurants celebrated grand openings Wednesday

Better get that appetite going, as West Orange officially welcomed three new restaurants to the Valley District — Mazzi Dogz, Planet Wings and Suzi-Que's BBQ.

The new grub hubs each have their own allure. A hot dog topping haven at Mazzi Dogz, finger licking flavorful wings at Planet Wings or a Southern pride family friendly Suzi-Que's BBQ.

Mayor Robert Parisi, along with members of the township council, the Human Relations Commission and the West Orange Chamber of Commerce hosted three individual ribbon cutting ceremonies Wednesday.

Vinny Mazzarisi, owner of Mazzi Dogz said guests can expect "funky combos" at his restaurant, including, Holy Guacamole — a hot dog covered in chili, guacamole, and crushed Dorito chips. "We pride ourselves in having the best hot dogs," said Mazzarisi.

Michael Kizis said locals can come taste one of 24 different flavored chicken wings at Planet Wings. "It's fresh, natural and hand-made," he said. What's Kizis' favorite? The Leapin' Lizard, a sweet and spicy sauce that's bound to make you come back for more.

Over at Suzi-Que's BBQ, owner Susan Hoffberg said their beef has been cooking for 13 hours in a Southern pride smoker, a specialize gadget not many restaurants have. "We wanted to open a place that was different," said Hoffberg. "Here it's where neighbors becomes friends and friends become family."

Mazzi Dogz is located at 555 Valley Road, Planet Wings is on 24 S. Valley Road and Suzi-Que's BBQ is on 34 S. Valley Road.

This is great to see some new places move into West Orange! It will be interesting to see how they fill up all the newly vacant space on Northfield across from Turtle Back Zoo.

As a board member with the West Orange Chamber of Commerce, I was happy to be a part of all of this yesterday. It was great to new businesses coming to town and to see the various town groups come out to show their support.

We really like SuzyQue's, especially the personal attention given to diners by the owner. Our favorite West Orange restaurant remains Gaffer's however. And the best pizza is definitely at Rockit!

Don't forget the good diner food at Gamburgers! (Just down the block from Mazzi Dogz, which are indeed fine dogs/dogz.)
