Man Wields Bat During Armed Robbery on Main Street
Police: Gold bracelet taken, knife recovered at scene
Police are searching for two New York men who allegedly assaulted and robbed a store worker on Main Street Friday in West Orange.
West Orange Capt. John Buoye said Roberto Manzueta, a Bronx resident, dropped off his three children at a store on 320 Main St. with his ex-wife's boyfriend, who works there. Shortly after, around 3 p.m., Manzueta, 21, returned armed with another man, Buoye said.
Wielding a baseball bat, police said Mazueta allegedly swung the bat at his ex-wife's boyfriend, causing minor injuries to his hand. Police said Patrick Ferraro, 50, from Brooklyn, NY, was standing at the front of the store, brandishing a handgun.
The victim then allegedly attempted to stab Manzueta with a knife. It is not known whether Manzueta sustained any injuries, police said.
The victim told police his 14 karat gold bracelet was taken during the altercation and said Manzueta is currently involved in a custody battle with his ex-wife.
Buoye said police are working with several witnesses who were in the store during the incident. He said the children were in the back of the store during the assault.
A knife was recovered at the scene of the incident but police are still looking for the two men who fled in a tan sports utility vehicle.
Police have a warrant out for their arrests; they are being charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon.
