A man allegedly attempted to rob a woman with a note at a Main Street ATM on Feb. 1, West Orange police reported.
According to police, the woman was withdrawing money from an ATM at the Bank of America branch at 59 Main St. at about 8:15 p.m. when she was approached by a man she didn’t know.
The man, described as between 26 and 28 years old and approximately 6-feet tall and around 200 lbs., told her to read the note he held in his hands, police said.
The woman told police she said, "I don't know you and I'm not going to read the note."
The man seemed angry and left the bank heading towards Orange on Main Street, she told police.
In the report, police noted the man waited to approach the woman until she was alone at the ATM.
Although she did not read the note, she told police it may have been an attempt to rob her.

If he wanted to rob her, why bother with the note? Maybe the guy did not know how to read and just needed help reading the note? Or the guy was told to rob the bank by handing the note to a teller, but the bank was already closed? Just wondering out loud.

I have to agree with you. Without reading the note, it's anybody's guess as to what his motivation was. Not much of a robber if he just walked away in a huff.

I've been to that ATM many times. When the bank is closed they require you to swipe your ATM card to unlock the door to get to where the ATM is. So I wonder if this guy was actually able to go up to the woman while she was at the ATM, or if he approached the woman after she had exited the building. If it was after she exited then there may not be any security footage.

May be he was only asking for direction.he could've being deaf.she didn't read the note,so why assume he wanted to rob her?
