Man Arrested for Robbing 69-Year-Old Woman

An arrest in Bayonne leads to West Orange.

 

A man arrested in a high-speed chase in the Bayonne recently appears to be person who robbed a in West Orange, according to the West Orange Police Department.  

Spillerman A. Hill, 47, of East Orange, was arrested on Sept. 4 after he led Bayonne police on a car chase. He was charged with carjacking, stealing a motor vehicle, and assaulting a police officer, among various other charges.

Investigation headed by West Orange Police Detective Pat Carosia determined Hill was the man who snuck up behind an elderly woman and robbed her of her purse around 3 p.m. on Sept. 3 in the Kmart parking lot, at 295 Prospect Ave. 

Hill was positively identified by the woman and charged, according to police.

Police say Hill has spent 25 years in state prison for various charges, including multiple counts of robbery, aggravated assault, and weapons possession.

He is currently being held at the Hudson County Jail. 

“It is absurd that someone with such a lengthy criminal record is allowed to walk our streets and continue to commit crime,” wrote West Orange Mayor Robert Parisi in a press release. “Thanks to the swift and diligent work of our police department, this criminal is back in jail and behind bars.”
