Models Grace Runway in Day One of New Jersey Fashion Week
Pleasantdale Chateau plays host to runway event
Hundreds poured into Pleasantdale Chateau on Eagle Rock Avenue in West Orange for day one of New Jersey's first "Fashion Week." The two-day event will continue Tuesday. Watch the video (at right) for more details. View the photos (at right) and read the live blog (below) from Monday's event.
9 p.m.: The runway show is over. A video of the event will be posted soon. Check back for a live blog of tomorrow's event, beginning at 6 p.m.
8:55 p.m.: Designers, make-up artists, hairstylists and models all walk down the runway for the finale of the first night of New Jersey Fashion Week.
Hairstylists and make-up artists walk hand-in-hand with their done-up models. Some are dancing to the techno music, as others applaud.
8:50 p.m.: The grand finale is coming up.
8:40 p.m.: Young girls are modeling clothing by designers Nico and Adrian.
8:35 p.m.: It is the emerging designer's sneak preview. Designers Ari and Sandra Baquero display their latest fashions.
The models are wearing clothing in the hues of blues and greens, with intricate hair pieces. French music is playing in the background.
8:25 p.m.: The male models have just stepped on to the runway to the loud cheers of the crowd.
8:20 p.m.: Modern techno music is blasting as model after model streams down the runway wearing Yanina jewelry.
The next group of models are younger girls for the "Fresh Faces" segment. For many, it is their first time on the runway, wearing clothing by Lord & Taylor.
8:15 p.m.: The next group of models were dressed for "special occasions." They are wearing formal dresses and beautiful stiletto heels.
8:10 p.m.: The next set of models are "Modern Woman," fashions by Lord & Taylor for older women. A 60-year-old woman model stepped out as the crowd went wild. The models are wearing business casual clothing, with simple hairdos.
The first set of models represented celebrity hairstylist Oribe Armando Canales. All Oribe products were used on the hair.
7:58 p.m.: The runway show has begun. The first model has stepped on stage wearing a black mesh long gown, her hair sleek and shiny, parted to the side.
There are not enough seats, some patrons are standing along the walls.
Maggie Mulhern, beauty and fashion director of Modern Salon Media, said right now it's "New Jersey Fashion 'two days,' but, in a few years, we'll hopefully have a full New Jersey Fashion Week."
Jack Panico, one of the event's co-founders, said, "There's so much going on tonight and hopefully we get this thing right the first time. It's a special night all the way around. Hopefully, you guys enjoy it."
Donnella Tilery, co-founder of New Jersey Fashion Week said, "When I began New Jersey Fashion Week it was important to let people know that New Jersey is classy, its stylish, and we have the best people no matter what people think."
Special guests include Elan Sassoon, son of Vidal Sassoon. He said, "I came here tonight to just see the two girls in plastic. I absolutely love new beginnings and I think this is fantastic."
Deborah Q. Belfatto, founder of the North Jersey Affiliate of Susan G. Komen, said, "I too am very lucky to have been born and raised in this beautiful state of New Jersey. We wanted to ensure that all women, no matter what, should have access to quality health breast care. Of the all money that Susan G Komen raises, 75 percent stays right here in northern New Jersey. We are doing everything possible that we can so that there will be a cure."
There are 65 models and dozens of hairdressers from a variety of salons in New Jersey.
7:30 p.m.: The cast of Jerseylicious has taken a front seat on the side of the runway. Model are dressed and ready to go. Almost all the seats have been filled. The runway show is about to begin.
7:10 p.m.: Seats are starting to fill up, as most of the patrons eat and drink. Debbie Coma, of Lincoln Park, said she came out "tonight because my daughter is a hair model with Avante Salon in Manalapan." Ceylone Boothe-Grooms, Mrs. New Jersey 2009, said, "I love fashion! I'm all about beauty, fragrance and everything that makes a woman feel good on the inside, as well as on the outside." Lord & Taylor has set up a beauty bar and is giving away 800 gift bags worth $200 to each guest. Towana Phillip, owner of Tosha, a Brooklyn-based handbag company said, "I have a lot of clients in New Jersey. New Jersey has great boutiques I'm trying to reach." Donnella Tilery, the event's co-founder, said tonight's runway will focus on "various hair styles that display women's true beauty." It slated to begin in 20 minutes. Part of the event's proceeds will benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
6:05 p.m.: Some of the Housewives have arrived. The founder of the supermodel hall of fame, Linda Morand, also has arrived. The media is swarming by the entry and there's cocktails in hand of most guests. A large LCD screen has been set up behind the runway that shows an array of modern photography. Models continue to practice, including now the male models. Seats slowly are being filled.
5:20 p.m.: Wine bottles have been corked. Hors d'oeuvres being served. Jack Panico, co-founder of the event, is organizing the models and has agreed to a press interview around 6 p.m. Celebrities are scheduled to arrive around 6 p.m. Cocktail hour will be at 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Tonight's show will focus on hair trends. Tomorrow's will focus on individual designers.
4:55 p.m.: Hundreds are streaming into Pleasantdale Chateau as the DJ blares Lady Gaga. Models are lining up behind the black curtain to practice on the runway. Celebrities are expected shortly. The A-List includes the Real Housewives of New Jersey, the Jerseylicious cast and maybe even Donald Trump. A beauty bar is set up with makeup artists, as well as fashionistas selling their products. Donnella Tilery, New Jersey Fashion Week co-founder, is prepping the press and designers before the runway at 7:30 p.m.
This is a live blog from the event. It will be updated constantly throughout the night as the fashion show continues. It is expected to end at 10 p.m.

O wow! your team did such an awsome job : ) how exciting the story is, with your incredible photos and video coverage.. and what an honor to have such an event, for such a worthy cause in our own backyard!.. this was definitely an event not to be missed.
