West Orange police have had a busy week in the township, reporting five cars were burglarized and two were stolen — with one stolen car outrunning police in a chase through town and on Route 280 .

Police reported six dollars was stolen from a 2009 Infinity G37 on Saint Cloud Avenue after the burglar broke in through the driver's side door on Jan. 21 at about 1:28 a.m.

In a separate incident, police said sometime between 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 21 and 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 22, a Blue 2012 Kia Optima was stolen from the driveway of an Arverne Road residence. The owner told police the car was unlocked with keys inside.

Officials said almost $2,000 in power tools were stolen from a Chevy work van by breaking the van's passenger side window. The van was parked on Columbia Street at 8:13 a.m. on Jan. 23.

The owner reported the following power tools were stolen: An electrical snake, valued at $1,400; two saws-alls, valued at $150 each; a drill, valued at $250 and a WetVac, valued at $35.

In addition, police said between 11:45 p.m. on Jan. 24 and 5 a.m. on Jan. 25, a 2005 Toyota Camry on Forest Hills Road was broken into and a $200 GPS was stolen.

On Jan. 24 at about 7:30 p.m., a man stole a car in West Orange and outran police on Route 280 heading east into Newark, police said.
