Essex County Correctional Facility Inmate Found Dead
Cause of death unknown pending autopsy.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office is investigating the death of an Essex County Correctional Facility inmate Tuesday morning, authorities said.
The inmate, identified as Jorge Rivera, 58, of Newark, was found dead inside a single cell by detectives from the county's Major Crimes/Homicide Task Force, according to Katherine Carter, spokesperson for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office. She said Rivera had a "serious medical condition" at the time of death.
The cause of death is unknown pending autopsy.
The jail's Internal Affairs unit is also investigating the incident, according to county spokesperson Anthony Puglisi.

I'm not at all surprised, after spending 7 months at the E.C.C.F it was very offten that I would hear "code white" over the loud speaker. The medical attention is the worst. If you have a emergency issue and your locked in a cell, you try and call the guard but they are not around, or sleeping or maybe they would just ignore you. That place should be closed down!

That was my dad! I loved him very, very much and miss him already. I am angry and heartbroken that he died the way he did. Any additional information would be helpful.
