Bus Crash on Orange/West Orange Border Leaves Several People Injured

Witnesses say SUV collided with bus on Scotland Road

An SUV overturned after it collided with a bus at the intersection of Scotland Road and Glebe Street Tuesday afternoon, leaving at least three people injured and backing up traffic for miles, according to Orange officials. There were no fatalities. 

The incident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. and left two victims trapped beneath a dark-colored SUV jammed between the bus and a telephone poll. Witnesses at the scene said the SUV allegedly ran a stop sign on Glebe Street and collided with the bus that was traveling south on Scotland Road. 

Randy Kleinwaks, who works in the area, said he saw the incident from his office. "The car ran the stop sign and the bus got him as it was coming down. Two people are stuck in there," he said. Kleinwaks said he saw a victim wave their hand from the overturned auto.

Roughly 50 onlookers flooded the sidewalks as members of the fire departments and rescue squads of Orange, East Orange and West Orange worked tirelessly for almost two hours to extract the victims from the vehicle. The first victim was extracted around 4:30 p.m.

 The injured vicitms were taken to University Hospital in Newark.

Antonio Fernandez, who works in West Orange, was on his way home when he arrived on the scene of the accident. He said he saw at least a dozen passengers coming out of the bus, including many children coming home from school. 

A representative from PSEG said power was cut to the area shortly after the incident, leaving roughly 30 customers without electricity.
